Why Nature Makes a Difference in Therapy & Walk and Talk Info

Why Nature Makes a Difference in Therapy-

Therapy can be done outside!

Have you ever noticed how a walk outside can shift your mood, clear your mind, or calm your nervous system? That’s not just a feeling, research and clinical experience show that being in nature has measurable benefits for mental health, including reducing stress and improving emotional balance.

I am trained in and integrate adventure, nature-based work and walk-and-talk sessions alongside traditional counseling. This approach acknowledges that healing and growth don’t always happen best sitting still in an office, they can happen through movement, smell of the air, sound of birds, and the rhythm of walking beside someone who’s listening.

What Is Walk-and-Talk Therapy?

Walk-and-talk therapy blends traditional therapeutic conversation with the benefits of physical movement and the natural environment. Side-by-side sessions can:

  • Reduce feelings of pressure or performance, you’re not facing someone across a desk.

  • Support regulation of the nervous system through gentle movement and fresh air.

  • Help you connect your internal experience with your environment in real-time.

  • Make therapy feel more accessible and grounded.

Because these sessions happen outdoors, we’ll first explore what feels comfortable and safe for you. We’ll talk about your comfort with nature settings, any physical considerations, and how outdoor or walk-and-talk sessions might support your goals. From there, you’ll have all the information needed to decide if this format is right for you, with space for questions and informed consent.

Who Might Benefit?

I offer walk-and-talk and outdoor sessions for people navigating life transitions, anxiety, stress, self-discovery work, and other challenges. Movement, combined with therapeutic support, can make space for insight, processing, and connection that feels more embodied and dynamic.

Locations will vary, but will be based  on trails, in parks or other natural spaces around Fairhaven in Bellingham, WA.

If you’re interested in outdoor therapy, we’ll first take time to explore whether this approach aligns with your needs. During an intake or regular office/ virtual session, we’ll complete a brief screening that covers your comfort in outdoor settings, any medical considerations, and the potential benefits and limitations of this format. Together, we’ll determine whether outdoor therapy feels like a supportive and informed choice for you. Reach out for a consult and we'll go from there!
